Unless you're planning to sell it sometime, using Pokemon should be fine. In fact, it should be... super effective.

Haha, yeah.

The way things are currently going, seems like I'll make an ebook for most of it, and then I'll make a summary tutorial out of that which may or may not use Pokemon. Colour's a much bigger topic than I anticipated.

I voted yes. Whether people like them or not, Pokémon are recogniseable characters and, as you said, are of a suitable style for the purpose.

And to any of you who are fed up of seeing Pokémon: at least she didn't suggest ponies.

I'm not into Pokémon, but I'm curious how would it work illustrated that way.

It wouldn't be necessary to be into Pokémon (actually I don't think it would help aside from just being more fun). The idea is that given Pokémon are often fairly flat colours, and the gamut of Pokémon colours is large, they would be a) good examples of colour swatches, and b) can be more easily used to illustrate lighting, too.

Any little cartoon characters would work, it's just that having to make my own would be more effort than necessary to get the colour tutorial done, and Pokémon are well-known and there are lots of them.
